Being a pet parent is one of the most enriching experiences, but it also comes with its share of responsibility. From choosing what food your pup eats, how much exercise and play they get, to choosing how to groom and care for them, there’s a lot to consider. You want what’s best for your pup, but navigating the options can be quite the challenge.

If you’re considering what type of shampoo and fur care products to use on your pup, it’s essential to consider which ingredients are safe for your dog in order to keep them happy and healthy. Unfortunately, not all dog grooming products are made with the same standards in mind. That’s why we made this guide. Our goal is to make the world of grooming products and dog care a cleaner place.

Let’s take a closer look at what you need to know about bath time, dog shampoo, and choosing the best for your furry friend.

Why Use a Natural Dog Shampoo?

Before we dive in, it’s important to understand why natural dog shampoo matters in the first place. Pet grooming products are largely unregulated when it comes to how they’re made and what ingredients are included. This means a range of harmful chemicals, artificial ingredients, and harsh toxins can be present in your dog’ shampoo and you may not even know!

If it’s important to keep your dog clean, shouldn’t their shampoo be clean, too? The answer is yes! That’s why we partner with veterinary dermatologists to make sure our formulas are effective, clean, and gentle.

Here’s a breakdown of how our shampoo is different.

Human-Grade Ingredients

Since there’s little regulation over dog care products, many items are pet-grade. This simply means they’re made up to “pet standards”, but these can contain many unwanted ingredients in them. That’s why we use human-grade ingredients. human-grade means all our products use the same clean, gentle ingredients used in your own care products.

Your dog is part of your family, and offering them the same level of care when it comes to their grooming products is one of the best ways to show them love. With human-grade products, you could hop in the bath with your pup–not that we recommend it.

Naturally-Derived Ingredients

No matter what product you’re considering for your dog, ingredients matter. It’s important to choose products with clean ingredients that are effective at supporting healthy skin, hair, and coats. Our ingredients include Aloe Leaf Juice, Argan Oil, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Cucumber Extract, Arrowroot Powder, Chamomile Extract, Avocado Oil, and Tapioca Starch just to name a few.

With clean ingredients, you can rest assured your pup’s skin gets the best care possible.

Tips for the Perfect Bath Time Routine

Getting your dog to love bath time is easy with these helpful tips to level up your bath time routine. Here’s what you should know.

1. Lather & Rinse

Every bath should start with getting your dog’s coat wet. Use warm water that feels comfortable on your wrist. Once you’ve got your dog’s coat wet, apply a natural shampoo starting with their bellies and working your way up to their chest. Lather and lather, making your way up to their ears and tail, too.

Be sure to lather and massage the shampoo in the direction of your dog’s fur growth for the best results. Once your dog is successfully lathered, rinse thoroughly with water! Be careful to avoid the eye and mouth area while washing.

2. Use an After Care Conditioner

Just because your pup’s done with their shampoo, doesn’t mean their bath time routine is over. An excellent way to take your routine to the next level is to use a leave-in conditioner. It’s no secret that our dog’s fur can become dry, dirty, and coarse fast. While this is a normal part of having a dog, using a leave-in conditioning product can help keep your dog’s coat silkier longer.

Enjoy a soft, silky coat for days after bath time with the following steps. After your pup is dry, spray leave-in conditioner 6 inches away from their coat. Brush product through their fur completely. If your dog’s fur is tangled, try to detangle it using a brush or comb.

Avoid your dog’s mouth and nose area while spraying conditioning products. With coconut oil, argan oil, and none of the harmful sulfates, parabens, silicones, or dyes, this conditioner is the best way to enjoy a softer pup!

3. Offer a Between-Bath Refresh

Just because bath time was a few days ago, doesn’t mean you have to deal with a stinky coat until the next bath. If you’re looking for a quick between bath refresh, consider a coat refresh spray. This is great for refreshing your dog’s coat for company or just to help them smell better until their next bath.
